North Gilas from S. Ave. 14E and Maria de Fortuna Dr.
The images shown here are panoramas of the north Gila mountains with the camera pointing due north from the corner of S. Ave. 14E and Maria de Fortuna Dr. That location is about 12 miles east of Yuma, Arizona. The view from S. Ave. 14E gives the north Gila range a very different look than the view of the same set of peaks from Foothills Boulevard, which is about a mile to the west. At S. Ave. 14E we're looking more along the length of these blade-shaped peaks. The corner of S Ave. 14E and Maria de Fortuna is also closer to the mountains than the Foothills Boulevard location.
To me the defining feature of the view from S. Ave. 14E is the intense, azure-blue sky over the mountains. It's the same sky we see from Foothills Boulevard, but I'm convinced that the northward direction of the camera creates a polarizing effect that deepens the blues in the sky. Twice I've been at this location thinking that I wasn't getting the best image when that deep blue sky proved otherwise.
